Why Absence of Libido Shouldn’t Be Ignored
Poor sexual drive is something that nearly all men and women have to face one day. An occasional failure is hardly a reason to be worried. What Hormonal Changes Affect Libido
Testosterone is one of the key libido-making hormones in both men and women. Testosterone production decreases during climax, menopause and in women who have undergone resection of ovaries. However, in some cases, it happens due to impaired functioning of the adrenal glands, which can be a sign of renal insufficiency. Also, it can be caused by Down’s syndrome.
Sometimes women develop fatigue, apathy, drowsiness, feel irritated all the time, and begin to feel like they do not care about sexual performance any more. These can be the signs of hypothyroidism – dysfunction of the thyroid gland. Along with libido, this condition can seriously affect the metabolism and, consequently, the functioning of vital organs (liver, kidneys, heart, etc.).
Increased prolactin is another cause of low libido. Prolactin increases naturally during pregnancy and breastfeeding, at times when libido should be lower than average. However, in all the other cases, excess prolactin can be the sign of a serious disease (benign and malignant tumors, etc.) affecting the pituitary gland and/or hypothalamus.

As follows from the above mentioned, poor libido cannot be disregarded because it can be the symptom of a serious condition. First and foremost, you should consult a trained physician and undergo an examination. If no serious issue has been found, there are some methods you can pretty much take care of yourself, such as the following:
- Eat foods containing healthy fats and stick to a healthy dietary plan;
- Cut down on coffee;
- Switch to healthy personal care products (lotions, creams, deodorants, etc.);
- Use professional help when choosing food supplements;
- Do exercises on a daily basis.
